Man Behind the Helmet
At the age of 16 Gage joined the UNSC Marines. Following the career path most of his family already were on. However each member of his family had there own specialty in combat, in this case Gage excelled heavily in long range combat.
One day however, after several years of service, Gage was sent on a recon op with an unknown spartan in charge of the operation. During the op something went horribly wrong and the squad Gage was apart of was forced to retreat. Gage however was unable to and stayed behind to cover his squads retreat. By the time a spartan came to his rescue he was presumed dead, he wasn't. Strewn across the area, that Gage was found, lay over thirty to forty dead covenant units, from grunts to brutes. Gage had hunkered down and made a fortified position inside a small home which was isolated and only had one way in. Not a single covenant survived. When the spartan checked his vitals they found a pulse.
The spartan was ordered to deliver him to UNSC Prowler the ONI flagship. Gage became the prototype and final product of Project Redemption. The project was classified and hidden under the Spartan-IV program. However too keep it a secret Gage uses armor from the Spartan-III program, until the full deployment of Spartan-IV armor. Only the staff of Project Redemption, including the spartan that dropped him off, and Spartan-242 know everything about the project. The little information that is known is that he was augmented to increase his skill with a sniper rifle.
His family does not know he is alive and was given a soldier's flag with a letter saying he was killed in action and his remains were unobtainable.
Because he was designated Spartan 242 during the classified project he is sometimes referred to as a "ghost" spartan.
"My only trace, is a body where an enemy once stood."
"Somewhere along the way I thought this was a good vantage point."
